TAMPA — Students Justin, Shannia, Alexis and Ava typically spend their Mondays and Thursdays at the Feeding Tampa Bay warehouse, either helping seniors fill their grocery bags or helping to sort food for the needy.

But on Tuesday, Dec. 19, their visit was for another reason.

The four students, part of the Focus Academy Public Charter School’s Transition Program for young adults ages 18-22 with developmental disabilities, were honored for the time volunteering at Feeding Tampa Bay this semester.

More than a dozen volunteers stopped bagging potatoes to kindly applaud the students from the Temple Terrace school, which has a middle, high school and Transition Program geared towards those who are on the autism spectrum or have other intellectual disabilities.
