Project Focus Taps Local Leaders to Form Advisory Council, Advance Disability Solutions
July 8, 2025Tampa, FL — [Sept. 2, 2025] — The Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI) is deepening its commitment to the community through a new partnership with local nonprofits Project Focus and Focus Academy. Together, they will expand job training opportunities and hands-on experiences for students and young adults with developmental disabilities.
The initiative is designed to give transition-age students (18–22 years old) exposure to real-world job settings where they can develop the skills needed to succeed in the workplace. Focus Academy’s transition program incorporates Community-Based Training (CBT) volunteer opportunities throughout Tampa Bay, and MOSI will now serve as one of the key training sites.
“We are thrilled for this opportunity so close to our campus,” said Elisabeth Radka, Head of Focus Schools. “Not only will our students gain valuable exposure to a new job setting, but the community will also get to experience the incredible talents, energy, and joy they bring with them.”
MOSI has been a Tampa Bay institution for decades, inspiring curiosity and innovation for families across the region. By opening its doors to Focus Academy students, the museum is extending its mission to foster inclusion and growth for all members of the community.
“Every person plays a vital role in the Tampa Bay ecosystem,” said John Graydon Smith, CEO, MOSI. “We are excited to welcome Focus students into the MOSI family and be part of their journey toward independence and workforce readiness.”
