Focus Future: Building a Community Within the Community

Project Focus Foundation
June 25, 2025

At Project Focus, we believe that individuals with developmental disabilities deserve more than programs, they deserve a place to belong, thrive, and grow. Our long-term vision has always been clear: to build a community within the community that integrates education, workforce development, and housing in proximity to each other that eliminates safety concerns for families, transportation barriers and unnecessary costs to independence.

A Purpose-Built Campus for Lifelong Growth
The proposed Project Focus campus is designed to activate every aspect of independent living and personal fulfillment. Rooted in connection and opportunity, this campus will not only serve the individuals enrolled in our programs, it will invite the broader public to engage and invest in what inclusion can truly look like.

At the center of the campus is an open shared space, the Lawn, which will function as the heart of activity, hosting performances, celebrations, and meaningful daily interactions.

Surrounding this central green are four distinct, interconnected spaces:

Focus Day School

A state-of-the-art facility serving middle school, high school, and transition-age students (ages 18–22) with developmental disabilities.

  • Middle & High School Classrooms
  • Transition Classrooms
  • Group & Individual Therapy Rooms
  • Life Skills Training Labs
  • Multipurpose Cafeteria & Gymnasium

Workforce Training Center & Commercial Hub

A dynamic space that blends vocational training with real-world experiences.

  • Grocery/Market
    Café
  • Vocational Rehab Services
  • Art & Cohort Rooms
  • Community-Facing
  • Commercial Partners

This center will train students and adults while serving the local neighborhood, making this a workforce solution and a community asset.

Performing Arts Theater

A 400-seat theater that embodies our commitment to mental wellness and creative expression.

  • Drama, Dance, and Art Therapy
  • Campuswide Performances
  • Community Events

Supportive Living Residences

Two apartment-style residential buildings designed for supported and independent living.

  • A mix of 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom units
  • Shared lounges, media and fitness centers
  • Optional service coordination
Designed with safety and accessibility in mind

Residents will be empowered to live independently, with access to resources that promote dignity, autonomy, and community integration.

Why It Matters

This community will be a model for what’s possible when education, wellness, and housing are connected with intention. It’s a place where students grow into adults who are not only employable but empowered. It’s a space that celebrates inclusion while setting a national standard for supportive development. We envision this project rising within one of Tampa’s redevelopment zones, ideally near green space, walkable amenities, and access to bus stops. A place where our community can take root and flourish.

Want to Get Involved?

We’re seeking partners, supporters, and advocates to help bring this vision to life. Whether you’re a funder, community leader, or simply someone who believes in a more inclusive future—we invite you to walk with us.
